Drew ~ have you ever heard of the book The Fourth Turning? It's about the cycles in history written by two Harvard professors. Supposedly, the "Turning" we are born in influences how we see the world. They say we are in a Fourth Turning right now -- when all institutions are crumbling. Sounds right, doesn't it?!?! The one good thing is they say historically those institutions are replaced with better things & progress is made. Here's a link. Thought you might be interested. https://www.fourthturning.com

Thanks, Jan!

I've heard of it in conversation but haven't read it yet myself.

There seems to be a common theme between that idea, the "Weak men bring hard times" cycle, the Kali Yuga... all cyclical and all in fours.

I guess being in the fourth quarter of these paradigms are both a comfort and a warning.

Thanks for the references to Hopf's novel and Kali Yuga. I've been reading about them this morning. I think I am part of the generation that made good times, but pampered the next with participation trophies, etc -- the group that's willing to give up their freedom(s) for comfort & security. I'm hoping men like you and Graham Wardle are the next great men to bring good times back. The authors of The Fourth Turning said our Fourth Turning was triggered in 2008 by the Financial Crisis & said there would be a crisis in 2020. (Wonder if that was Covid-19?) They predicted there would be a great devaluation in the economy & restructuring will happened around 2026. I am keeping my fingers crossed for others, just sad that my husband & I worked so hard for our "nest egg" and hate losing it. Comfort & Warning ~ a good way to look at it. Thanks again!
