It’s been a while since I’ve written here on Substack.

I’ve been podcasting since 2022, one day before the invocation of the Emergency Act in Canada, on what felt like an ever increasing panacea of governmental, societal, philosophical, and humanity-level issues.

Over 600 episodes later, after speaking to world class minds and world changing people about every kind of danger, concern, and failure that was plaguing us as human beings in our time and over the ages — I decided that podcasts weren’t enough.

The scope and scale of everything I was learning about and speaking to was creating a larger meta-worldview than I knew what to do with. As a result of that, I wound up writing two books over the course of two years speaking to many of these ideas and my particular thoughts on them.

Those books were well received among my listenership and those with a mind for big thoughts on truth, reality, and sovereignty. They spoke to a need for better conversation and wider lenses on ideas that informed so many of the pidgin-holed, hot topic sound bytes that infested our media/information spaces.

Part of why I haven’t been writing here as much as I used to has to do with my spending of what writing time I have each day on the construction of those books.

Though, I’ve come to a conclusion that has shifted my tact on this effort…

The Power of Story

As I absorbed literature from many great thinkers of the past, in the preparation and research process of writing my own, I noticed a trend among several of the authors that I most respected. They would write fantastic and incisive treatises on the pressing issues of their time, true; but what they became most well known and appreciated for wasn’t their intellectual literature, it was their works of fiction!

Whether it’s J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Aldous Huxley, or George Orwell… every one of them, to a man, did their greatest service to humanity through fantastic works of fiction!

After noticing that, I made a decision to follow in their footsteps. Because, anyone can argue a discrete idea when laid our rationalistically, but if you, instead, convey the very same idea through a story, more people will internalize it by osmosis. They will absorb what they may not want shoved down their throats otherwise.

Whether they be theological ideas, as in The Chronicles of Narnia, mythological truths as in The Lord of the Rings, or sociological warnings as in 1984 — through fictional story, those great thinkers were able to transmit large ideas through successive generations and into the hearts and minds of millions more people than would have sat down to read them in a more clinical presentation.

Fractures

In this same spirit, I’ve been busying myself, daily, with the building out of my very own fictional epic novel series. It’s steeped in its own mythology, altered reality, and a virtual cascade of ethical dilemmas that will only get more opaque with time!

The grand story arc has already been mapped out through four books. Each one will more widen the circle of understanding within its universe to both present new vantages as well as radically revise those of each previous book.

It is called “Fractures” and will be starting with its first foray titled: Fractures in Love.

One of the primary questions that will be consistently asked of its protagonists is: What are you willing to sell your soul for?

Not what are you willing to die for… no… what is so important, so precious, that you would become the worst version of yourself for it?

Would you go to hell for love? For freedom? For vengeance? For truth? For your people? For your family?

The story style for this series will feel somewhat reminiscent of epic sagas like The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and Attack on Titan. In fact, one of my beta readers made the connection to a Hunger Games vibe without me even saying as much!

Be The First To Get It

I have been writing, every single day, on this first book for nearly 10 weeks straight. I’m presently nearly 80,000 words deep and into chapter 20 of 35. I’m aiming to have a first draft completed in December of this year.

I want this series to be done as well as it possibly can be! And I want it to reach as many people as it possibly can! So, with those goals in mind, I will be going beyond what I have in the past when it comes to self publishing.

High end editors, typesetters, artists, and printers are going to be employed to make everything about this series top quality! As such, I’m setting up a Kickstarter campaign to help fund what will be many thousands of dollars in publication costs.

That Kickstarter won’t be live until I am closer to finishing the first draft. BUT, for now, I have what they call a “Pre-Launch” page that you can sign up on to get notified when it does go live!
