Burning Of Bridges
Looking Back On The Relationships Lost And Forward To The New Ones Forged Over The Pandemic
I’m probably not alone in the fact that I’ve lost a lot of friends, followers and even family over the pandemic. And, especially after the point that I started speaking out about it.
For everyone who’s already nodding their head, you know how shocking, painful and disheartening that can be. You’ve watched people whom you’ve loved and gone to bat for, maybe for years, maybe for your entire life - light up a torch and viciously burn down the bridges that connect you to them.
In today’s podcast episode, I go through many of my thoughts and experiences about these people and relationships.
Hopefully in a way that is most beneficial to everyone involved, but at LEAST in a way that’s firstly beneficial to you.
Sometimes, whether we burn the bridge, or someone else does; it’s actually good for us moving forward.
My feeling is that we are going to have to come back together through this division in one way or another, so starting from as much empathy as possible is the healthiest way to douse those flames.
BUT…
There are absolutely people and power structures who have shown their colors and unequivocally displayed who they really are that should NOT be given a second chance. And it’s so important to be able to distinguish the two.
Otherwise, we will wind up dooming ourselves to indignation and self loathing.
Maybe the best news from all of this is this…
Though we are all saddened and shocked at some of the close relationships who burnt us when we needed them to back us, what you’ll find beyond the fire are a group of unlikely but uncannily similar people who hold the same values you do.
It’s through this unexpected and painful pruning process that we find the ability to form even stronger bonds between people who you’ve already seen who they are when it matters.
Those should be the friends we want, the companies we back and the politicians we vote for moving forward.
Words are cheap. Action is everything.
